If you have any sort of question, you are not alone. Many people have been questioning about the future of the event. Due to the pandemic which is not over yet, there have been speculations from the attendees numbers limitations, the banning of foreign fans, to the cancellation of the upcoming event.
It is four months to go until the very start of the game.
Some rumors said that Japanese authorities privately concluded that there would be no Olympics this year since they wanted to focus on taking care of Covid-19 pandemic.
But the IOC and Japanese government rejected these rumors and claimed that the Olympics could proceed somehow.
The officials have also confirmed that Tokyo Olympics Organizers have moved forward with the plan. As we know, according to the official organizers’ site, the first game will take place in July. So, it is getting near, mates.
So, to answer your question: YES, it will happen!
Tokyo Organizers have determined to hold the 2020 Olympics and Paralympics this year. Due to the pandemic that forced the postpone last year, the organizers have rescheduled the events for the date of July 23rd to August 8th, 2021.
The postponed Summer Games is not the sign of giving up. On the contrary, Japan Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide stated this action as proof of mankind’s victory over the virus. However, the moment of truth has yet to happen. Guess we just need to wait and see that it is going to happen in a few months in the future.
Meanwhile, the vaccine distribution started in Japan back on February 17th. That could be a great sign that we hope for. If the roll-outs are smooth and well, the decreasing numbers will be viable. That means the number of covid-19 cases will also decrease, stretching the possibilities to invite all the foreign fans who want to come to Tokyo to enjoy the spectacle directly from the venue.
However, the numbers of vaccines are formerly viable for the health workers, organizers, and staff. The Associated Press also informed another important thing. They stated that Japan won’t reach herd immunity before July. That means the restrictions will still happen. We probably hope for the best and the organizers could change it to halving the attendees in the venue.
The vaccines distribution will still go on until at least another year. So, the fight against the pandemic is not over yet.
