2020 Summer Olympic Swimming competition will be held in Tokyo from 25 July to 6 August 2021 at the Olympic Aquatics Centre. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Summer Olympic 2020 has been postponed to 2021 but their official name remains 2020.
Women’s Open – Water marathon – 10 km will be held on August 5, and the men’s race will happen (August 7) at the Odaiba Marine Park.

Olympic Swimming Rules and Regulations
Olympic-level swimming competition is regulated by FINA (Federation Internationale de Natation). If the Swimmers starting outside the water they must have at least one foot on the front of the starting platform. Or if the Swimmers already in the water they must continuously contact the starting platform or wall with one hand. The winner is selected based on the fastest swimmer or a team touching the touchpad.
Olympic Swimming Strokes
In the modern Olympic Games, there are 16 swimming pool events for men and women. Olympic Swimming is based on four swimming styles. There are Freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly.
Freestyle Swimming
Of all swimming competitions, freestyle is most common. Freestyle is also known as front crawl. Of all swimming strokes, the Front crawl is one of the fastest. Swimmers of freestyle use an alternating arm action, leg action, and breath to the side.
Backstroke Swimming
Backstroke swimming is executed by lying on your back and move one arm and then the other straight behind you so that they pass the sides of your head while kicking with your legs.
Breaststroke Swimming
Without any doubt, Breaststroke is one of the most popular swimming strokes. Breaststroke is the slowest swimming stroke. Most of the swimmers swim regularly using Breaststroke. In Breaststroke swimming Swimmers must be bodies facing down when their feet leave the wall.
Butterfly Swimming
Butterfly swimming is the newest swimming style. Butterfly swimmers swim using their chest, with both arms moving symmetrically, accompanied by the butterfly kick. It is also known as the “dolphin kick”.
History of Olympic Swimming
The 1st modern Olympic Games happened in Athens In 1896. In 1912 the women’s swimming program was first introduced at the Stockholm Olympic Games. In the 1976 Melbourne event Swimmers were allowed to wear goggles. Wearing Full-body neoprene suits by Swimmers started at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. The United States holds a record of winning a total of 246 Gold Medals. Michael Phelps is the most successful Olympian because he wins 23 medals.
Top Olympic Swimmers at Tokyo Olympic 2021
Michael Phelps (United States) is the number one Swimmer in the World. He the most successful and most decorated Olympian of all time. He wins total 28 medals in 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012, and 2016.
Mark Andrew Spitz is an American swimmer. He was a successful athlete at the 1972 Summer Olympics, winning seven gold medals. He is a nine-time Olympic champion.
Jennifer Beth Thompson is an American successful swimmer. She wins twelve medals, including eight gold medals, in 1992, 1996, 2000, and 2004 Summer Olympics. She is one of the famous Olympians in history.
Matthew Nicholas Biondi is an American swimmer. He is an eleven-time Olympic medalist and world record-holder in five events. He wins a total of eleven medals (eight gold, two silver, and one bronze).
