Olympics Water Polo History

Back then, water polo took place in the lakes and rivers. Back then, a pig’s stomach was the primary material to make the ball for water polo. But not anymore. Rubber balls are the most common one. It started as an exhibition in the 1900 Olympic Games. Then the popularity rose in 1911. There were 12 countries’ teams that competed in the 1920 Antwerp Olympic Games.

From 1928 to the 1980s, people across the globe had known Hungary as the best water polo nation.

Top Olympic Water Polo Teams at Tokyo Olympics

In the modern water polo era, we cannot neglect the overwhelming records of Team USA in women’s water polo. The Water Polo captain Maggie Steffens shared her experience in the Olympic Channel and told why her team could reign in the competition. She said that they were a group of badass women that never give up.

Although Hungary is one of the most prominent water polo teams, the men’s water polo looks like a strong competitor in Italy.
