The Tokyo Olympics that are supposed to take place in 2020 will finally be held this year. They must postpone this big event for a year due to the Covid-19 pandemic that hit the world. In this case, Tokyo 2020, as the organizer of the Tokyo Olympics, has submitted the latest information regarding new policies for the upcoming big event.
The new policy, which will start in late April 2021, relates to restrictions on the number of spectators at the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics. CEO of Tokyo 2020, Hashimoto Seiko, said that the Japanese government has a plan for the end of March 2021. The purpose is to open borders so that foreign athletes can enter.
Until now, Japan is still applying for a closed status because the Covid-19 pandemic has not ended. Previously, the Japanese government was also considering a policy plan to limit the number of spectators at the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympic Games.
The regulations for restricting the number of spectators are specific to residents living in Japan.
Presumably, the rules for limiting the number of spectators will become part of the virtual meeting agenda. Participants in the meeting are the Committee of the Olympics and Paralympics Tokyo, Tokyo 2020, and the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The Tokyo 2020 CEO also says that they will arrange the plan during the meeting. They will discuss the limit on the number of viewers further at the end of April 2021. What they will discuss is the limit on the number of live spectators allowed for each match.
Apart from Japan’s spectators, they also forbid the foreign spectators from attending the Olympics and Paralympics this year. Considering that the Covid-19 pandemic situation is still worrying and uncontrolled, the Olympic Committee has decided to prohibit foreign visitors from entering Japan during the Olympics and Paralympics.
For overseas spectators who have tickets, the Committee recommends arranging their departure schedule from now on, following the ban on visitors during the Olympic period.
The ban not only makes it difficult for foreign audiences but ultimately also makes it difficult for the families of foreign athletes to attend in person in the arena.
Although, in the end, the new regulations caused inconvenience, the Committee must implement the ban.
That is to maintain the safety of athletes and the community. The Olympic committee also reportedly will coordinate for refunds for those who already have tickets but cannot come due to restrictions on the number of spectators.
