The Tennis tournament at the 2021 Summer Olympics
It will be the 18th edition of the tennis tournament in the Olympics. The surface used for this tournament is hard. In the upcoming event, there will be 172 players participating in the prestigious disciplines. There will be singles and doubles for both men and women. The good fact about this tournament is that there will be doubles as well.
2021 Tennis Tournament Qualification
The qualification for singles is based on the world rankings that were valued on 14 June 2021. So, we can say that the qualification is not over yet. If you are following a specific favorite tennis player, you can rest assured that he or she still gets the chance. However, a player should meet the requirements to play on Davis Cup or Fed Cup teams.
Meanwhile, there are 32 teams to compete in the men and women doubles competitions. There are up to 10 places reserved for the players in the top 10 of the doubles ranking. There will be one team per gender to host the nation.
Competition format
In the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games, there will be a single-elimination tournament. There will be 64 players participating in the tournament for the men and women singles division. Those who reach the semifinals will receive medals. Meanwhile, two losing semi finalists will compete for the bronze.
There will be three sets for all single matches, excluding the final which will last to five sets if necessary.
