The officials have released the information about hockey dates and venues in the Tokyo Summer Olympics 2020. The first match will take place on Saturday, July 24.

The opening match will involve Japan and Australia at Oi Hockey Stadium’s North Pitch. It will be one of eight matches which take place on Saturday. The opening men’s fixtures will take place along with two women’s fixtures.

The group stages will take place until July 31. The quarter final rounds will take place from Sunday, August 1. The gold medal matches start from August 5 for men and August 6 for women hockey teams.

Oi Hockey Stadium will host all of the hockey matches in the 2021 Summer Olympics. So, you could buckle up and witness all of the spectacular moments right from the chosen spot.

Olympic Hockey Rules

The Olympic Hockey format at Tokyo has been there. Both teams for males and females will follow the same format issued for Tokyo 2020.

12 nations will be competing in the competitions.

There are two round-robin groups of six each. The top four teams will advance to the quarterfinals.

Three points are for the winner. One is for the draw. Single match knockout until the final. The bronze medal will be available for the loser’s semi-final winners.

Olympic Hockey started getting recognition in 1920. The sport’s popularity spread so quickly that many countries are competing in particular sports. India was the most prominent team in the mid-20th.

Moscow had success in 1980. It was also the year of the debut of women’s hockey competitions in the Olympics.

In 1996, we’d noticed that Netherlands and Germany had involved themselves in such strong competitions. As a result, they had won golds back to back. Meanwhile, Argentina won the gold in Rio 2016.
