Olympic Basketball Rules
The Olympic basketball competition format and rules are easy to comprehend by basketball enthusiasts. There are twelve teams in total participating in the tournament. There are three groups in each team to play a single round-robin.
The winner and runner-up of each group will participate the two best third-placed teams in qualifying. The quarter final matches will happen on August the third. The semi finals will be on the fifth of august. Meanwhile, the final will take place on Saturday, August 7.
The size of the court will be different from the normal basketball competitions. There’s almost no goaltending as well in the court. Also, there’s no defensive 3-second violation. But more importantly, the game’s duration will be much shorter. Olympic have four 10-minute quarters.
Olympics Basketball History
The first recorded invention of the basketball dated back in the US in 1891. However, the growth of the sport was too quick so that there were a lot of countries who claimed to produce the best basketball players.
The Olympic inclusion was in 1904. However, it started as a medal event in 1936. Well, it took quite a long time to get there. The women’s basketball competition made its debut at the 1976 Munich games.
In the 2021 summer Olympics, Tokyo will make the 3×3 basketball debut in the competition. It is going to be an interesting event to watch conveniently from your favorite screen.
